In most patients, local anesthesia' numbness usually subsides after 1-4 hours.

• Do not eat anything or drink anything hot until the numbness in your mouth wears off. This will prevent you from biting your cheek or tongue.

• Keep in mind that there is a small risk of pain and discomfort that may probably be treated with usual painkillers

• Limit swelling by using an ice pack over the treated area for 15 minutes and repeat that every 15 minutes. Repeat that for 6-8 hours after surgery.

• Avoid lifting you lips to check the operating region for at least 24hrs. That is because you may tear the very thin sutures. Let it heal and your endodontist will schedule a follow-up appointment to check the region.

• Brush your teeth normally but gently. Use an electric toothbrush in the operated region, only after 3rd day of the surgery. After 3rd day you may use chlorhexidine mouthwash twice a day and continue for at least two days after the stitches are removed. That promotes cleansing of the surgical area.

• Maintain a bland and nutritious diet. Avoid eating from the surgical area for two days. Ensure that you drink plenty of fluids. 

• Avoid any sports activity for the first few days.

• Do not miss your post-op appointment to remove stitches.

The following should not cause any concern:

• Slight taste of blood for 24-36 hours; but no mouth bleeding.
  

• Swelling for the next 24 hours; it usually subsides after 3-4 days.
  

• Mild discomfort
  

• Skin discoloration or bruising.
