In most patients, numbness after local anesthesia usually subsides after 1-4 hours.

After endodontic treatment or retreatment, it is normal to feel some tenderness in the region for the next few days as your body undergoes a natural healing process. It will take time to heal irritated and inflamed tissues that support your tooth at the jawbone.

Your tooth will be sensitive to pressure (biting) for the first few days / weeks and in some cases you may notice a difference in biting even for a few months. This sensitivity is normal and you should not be concerned.

Instructions you should follow After Treatment

• Do not eat anything or drink anything hot until the numbness in your mouth wears off. This will prevent you from biting your cheek or tongue.

• Do not chew or bite your treated tooth until your dentist completes restorations.

• Be sure to brush and floss as you normally would.

• Contact your dentist as soon as your tooth has calmed down and is no longer sensitive so as to proceed with its final permanent restoration (usually 2-6 weeks after treatment is completed, unless we advise you otherwise).

Contact us immediately if you face any of the following:

• Swelling inside or outside your mouth.
  

• Allergic reaction to medication, usually indicated by a rash, hives, itching, or swelling.
  

• Re-appearance of initial symptoms
  

• Your teeth do not close properly (i.e. seal is high).
